SEO strategy is the process of organizing a website’s content by topic, which helps search engines like Google understand a user’s intent when searching.

SEO strategy is necessary when:

  1. The website owner has big and defined goals to achieve in the global market.
  2. The niche you are targeting is a highly competitive market.
  3. The site is extremely large and has a number of pages which cannot be kept in mind.

There is no definite classification of strategies in SEO. But if inclined to divide the strategy, it can be divided on the basis of

  • Current state of the site
  • The goals of the site to achieve

1. HOP-HOP STRATEGY

  • Applicable only for sites which are being created or already have been created but has a very small number of pages
  • The goal is the rapid growth of search traffic

Key Points of HOP HOP Strategy

  • Do a competitive analysis. Look at the competitor’s strategies and implement the ones which get the most relevant traffic in the shortest time period.
  • Create as many landing pages as possible (service pages & blog pages)
  • Increase the number of entry points to the site (Link Building)
  • Increase references and testimonials

Disadvantages

  • Focus is more on the quantity, not on quality
  • Due to low quality, a low conversion rate is possible

2. AVERAGE PERFORMER STRATEGY

  • Applicable for websites that have completed their first year in the market
  • The rankings are somewhere on the 1st or 2nd page
  • Good authority to compete for the 1st places in the search engines

Key Points of Average Performer Strategy

  • Optimize, rewrite already existing pages. Add new pages which are relevant to the domain. Delete the pages which do not bring traffic at all.
  • Get quality links from other higher authority websites
  • Create new quality content which shows authority in the domain, leading to higher conversion rates.

Disadvantages

  • Time Consuming
  • Results will not be instant. It will take time to reflect.
  • Expensive backlinks may be required

3. MASTODON STRATEGY

  • Suitable for site and market leaders who are only competing with 2 or 3 mastodons who have been in the market from decades.
  • The goal is to advance more than competitors. Find hidden entry points to reach 1st position for several keywords.

Key Points of Mastodon Strategy

  • They do not need to work on references and testimonials. Since a lot of other websites refer to their materials.
  • The work is to produce quality content and proper internal linking. It is not just enough to write high-quality content but also to think and create unusual, relevant content which is not similar to the competitors.
  • New types of submission of content in terms of videos, infographics, multimedia, a collection of relevant materials and documents.

Disadvantages

  • Very Time Consuming
  • Need a full team of experts to execute the strategy
